The painting is a powerful masterpiece executed partially in neo-impressionist brush stroke.

Following the École des Beaux-Arts Léon Detroy dedicated himself to plein air painting and was drawn into the region of the Creuse in the Limousin.

There he learned about the poet Maurice Rollinat in Fresselines Claude Monet to know.

Bonnard, Vuillard and Guillaumin were also soon common friends.

Detroy lived alternately in Agay, in Gargilesse and Crozant. This small town in the center of the region of the Creuse gave the group of Impressionist painters working there his name: École de Crozant.

Léon Detroy, together with Armand Guillaumin (1841 - 1927) the main representatives of this school, is often called the honorary title "Maître de Crozant".
