The painting dates from the early years on Capri. There, Paul Spaun and his wife Stella purchased a house.
1913 visited him there, his former mentor, the Munich painter Dieffenbach in his last year.


Paul von Spaun had learned his outstanding craftsmanship essentially by Dieffenbach, who had a gifted talent for atmospheric representations.

Both -Spaun and Dieffenbach-found on Capri many admirers, which was not granted to them in time in Munich. Spaun developed on Capri one of the best painter of coastal landscapes, and this was cause of an an accurate observation of nature in connection with a flair for decorative effects.
